Looking to get into ATVs? The new Kawasaki Brute Force 300 is a great entry-level four-wheeler, and with a starting price of $4,249 it's not a major investment. The sporty Brute Force is tons of fun to ride on your day off. Plus, you can turn it into a snow plow in the winter so your wife won't have an excuse for why you can't keep your new toy.
This machine can handle pretty much any terrain you want to conquer, whether you're cruising through the woods or moseying along a well-ridden trail. It's got a ground clearance of 6.1 inches, making it easy to tackle even the bumpiest of paths. The Brute Force 300 is not designed to go all out, climbing steep inclines and plowing through thick underbrush, but if this is your first ATV, you're probably not ready for that anyway. Once you are, the four-wheeler can handle some obstacles, but it will take a bit of driving talent to tackle this sort of challenge.
The 271cc engine, while smaller than those on other Kawasaki ATVs, packs a manageable punch with a modest compression ratio of 11.0:1. You won't find the same level of power as in some larger ATVs, but the 300's reduced engine size does have one advantage over its big brothers - a smooth ride. Less torque allows you to enjoy a comfortable ride where you're not getting jostled around like you're on the back of a wild horse. This also means the four-wheeler is easier to control, so new riders can get their bearings and get used to sitting atop one of these beasts before moving up to something bigger.
In addition to easy maneuverability and comfort, the 300 also offers a simple, two-speed automatic transmission so you don't have to worry about shifting while you're learning the ropes. Save that for when you feel like being on an ATV is more natural than standing on your own two feet.
As far as looks go, the Brute Force 300 doesn't exactly stand out from the pack. If you're still getting used to riding an ATV, this can be advantageous, as all eyes likely won't be on you when you mess up. Once you get used to the ride, you can consider getting ATV accessories to enhance the mount so you can play with the big boys.
